Publications

Over 200 articles in dozens of magazines and newspapers. This includes many cover stories for Memphis magazine, Golf Digest and Tennis magazine; major articles in national publications such as Historic Preservation (the magazine of the national trust), FineLine (the magazine of journalistic ethics), Portfolio (Northwest Airlines in-flight magazine), and reprints in Reader’s Digest.

Monthly humor column for Memphis magazine (1982-1991) also appeared regularly in Kansas City magazine, Miami/South Florida magazine, The Buffalo News Sunday Magazine and The Sacramento Bee Sunday Magazine; it also appeared occasionally in The Houston Post, The Seattle Times, The Detroit Free Press, The Pittsburgh Press, and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Corporate publications include the Federal Express Social Responsibility Review and the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce Directory.

Poems in a variety of literary publications.


Professional Awards and Achievements

1985 Silver Medal for Excellence in Commentary from the City and Regional Magazine Association (national award)

1987 Silver Gavel Award from the American Bar Association for the nation’s best magazine article on legal issues (national award; previous winners included articles in The New York Times Sunday Magazine and The New Yorker)

1987: Memphis magazine articles on Cybill Shepherd chosen as model magazine profiles in Feature Writing for Newspapers and Magazines, standard journalism textbook by Jay Friedlander and John Lee.
